Regardless of the provider-type, the practice of clinical medicine has elements of both a science and an art. While fundamental core knowledge is always important, hard-won experience can also result in better patient care episodes. In this session, experienced dermatology professionals will share "pearls" of wisdom with regard to the practice of general clinical dermatology. Drs. Rosen and Zirwas will focus on non-medication pearls.

Standard therapeutic interventions mail fail. This session will provide a variety of off-label drug modalities that may prove beneficial when routine treatments don't work or only provide insufficient improvement. The rationale - when understood - for such use will be explained.

Integrative dermatology bridges conventional medicine and complementary medicine. Focusing on complementary therapies with literature supporting their efficacy allows us to incorporate these treatments into our armamentarium while maintaining an evidence-based approach to care.

This lecture will explore the principles of steroid stewardship in dermatology, emphasizing the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of topical, intralesional, and systemic corticosteroids in clinical practice. Participants will review appropriate corticosteroid selection based on potency, formulation, duration, and anatomic location while recognizing potential adverse effects associated with overuse or misuse. The session will also address strategies to minimize steroid-related complications, optimize patient adherence, incorporate steroid-sparing therapies, and educate patients on proper corticosteroid use in the management of inflammatory skin diseases.

You will walk away from this lecture with a tool that allows you to pick the best drug for every atopic dermatitis patients. A little preview...if you met somebody new to your city and they asked if you knew anybody you could set them up with, what would you do first? You'd ask some questions about what mattered to them - Looks? Intelligence? Ambition? Funny? Height? Exciting? Reliable? Kind? You should think of every atopic dermatitis the same way. You need to find out what matters to them, then set them up for a date with the right drug.

HS is a complex disease that often requires multiple management modalities. in this session the holistic management of HS will be discussed. Focus will be on the need to address multiple pathological processes that occur as part of the disease. this is reflected in the need to treat patients with a variety of intervention to address disease signs and symptoms, progression, flares and patient related outcomes.

While skin clearance is always a goal, there are many other aspects of patient care that occur in the dermatology clinic. We'll discuss diet, exercise, and sleep strategies to bring a holistic approach to wellness for our patients. It's important to care for caregivers, so we'll also discuss our own wellness and strategies to find meaning and fulfillment in the practice of dermatology.

Climate change may lead to environmental change which - in turn - may lead to natural disasters of various types. Based upon actual experience in a post-disaster triage clinic, a variety of cutaneous manifestations related to ever-increasing disasters will be explored.

In recent years, multiple studies have examined the role of diet in dermatology. The challenge for dermatologists is to take these research findings and formulate recommendations for individual patients that are evidence-based, specific to their disease, and are actionable. This session will review the evidence for recommending dietary change in either the prevention or treatment of different dermatologic diseases, with a focus on actionable recommendations.
