There are a surprising number of standard practices in medicine that are not evidence-based, but instead simply taught from one generation to the next. In addition, many clinical trials have incorrect processes or false conclusions. This talk will analyze several topics in cosmetic dermatology – from post-Botox aftercare to the use of different gauge cannulas – exploring old popular beliefs, new ideas, and research that will be practice-changing.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

Review the different types of clinical trials and how to analyze a publication for its strengths and weaknesses
Discuss many popular beliefs in cosmetic dermatology and analyze which have scientific support and which do not
Examine a new publication on cannula safety to help better inform our patients and equipment selection
Summarize the new literature on longevity of hyaluronic acid fillers and how this affects our treatments as well as consenting process
