There are a surprising number of standard practices in medicine that are not evidence-based, but instead simply taught from one generation to the next. In addition, many clinical trials have incorrect processes or false conclusions. This talk will analyze several topics in cosmetic dermatology – from post-Botox aftercare to the use of different gauge cannulas – exploring old popular beliefs, new ideas, and research that will be practice-changing.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Review the different types of clinical trials and how to analyze a publication for its strengths and weaknesses
  • Discuss many popular beliefs in cosmetic dermatology and analyze which have scientific support and which do not
  • Examine a new publication on cannula safety to help better inform our patients and equipment selection
  • Summarize the new literature on longevity of hyaluronic acid fillers and how this affects our treatments as well as consenting process
