This course is all about the whens, whys, and hows of dermoscopy – when to use it, why PAs use it, and how to interpret what a PA will see. Through the four modules, Dr. Joslyn Kirby reviews and analyzes the rationale for observed images in dermoscopy and the features of various lesions, “pinkish things,” and other skin growths that are vital to proper diagnosis.
This activity has been reviewed by the AAPA Review Panel and is compliant with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 3 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid from one year from the issue date. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.
Learning Objectives
Module 1 - Dermoscopy Made Easy
- Describe the features and rationale for observed images in dermoscopy.
- Identify key features of melanocytic and common non-melanocytic lesions using a classification based on dermoscopy.
- Apply pattern analysis and a simple algorithm for the identification of skin neoplasms, benign and malignant
- Increase confidence differentiating between melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions.
Module 2 - Benign Vs Melanoma
- Describe the features observed in dermoscopic imaging
- Identify key features of melanocytic nevi and melanoma using a classification based on dermoscopy.
- Apply knowledge to dermoscopy cases of pigmented lesions.
- Increase confidence differentiating between benign and malignant lesions
Module 3 - Dermoscopy of Pinkish Things
- Apply pattern analysis and a simple algorithm for the identification of skin neoplasms, benign and malignant
- Identify key dermoscopic features of ‘pink’ lesions on clinical exam, including vascular patterns
- Apply knowledge of dermoscopy to cases of non-pigmented skin growths
- Increase confidence differentiating between benign and malignant lesions.
Module 4 - Face, Palms, and Soles
- Describe the features observed in dermoscopic imaging of special sites, such as the palms, soles, and face.
- Identify key features of melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions on special sites.
- Apply knowledge to dermoscopy cases of special body sites.
- Increase confidence differentiating between benign and malignant lesions.
