This session is an introduction into dermoscopy where we will review how dermatoscopes work and their utility in lesion diagnosis.  Cases will be used to illustrate patterns of common benign and malignant lesions. This is an interactive session requiring audience participation with assessments throughout the presentation to assess comprehension.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand anatomy and use of dermatoscopes.
  • Identify fundamentals of dermoscopy and why it is useful.
  • Recognize dermoscopic features of common benign lesions.
  • Use dermoscopy to distinguish benign from suspicious lesions that require biopsy.
