Food for Thought: The Impact of Diet on Skin

This lecture is geared to the clinician who gets asked about diet and feels at a loss for what is the best advice. In this talk I will review some of the history of nutrition science and how agricultural policies have contributed to the obesity epidemic.
We will review the literature of what diets have been best studied, what common supplements actually have evidence for use and how best to guide your patients.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the complex food environment that we live in in the United States and some of the underpinnings of the obesity epidemic
2. Understand basics of how nutrition science is gathered
3. Understand how economic and agricultural policies as well as commodification of food sources affect what is available in a food supply
4. Review literature as it relates to common inflammatory skin diseases
5. Review literature on common trendy supplements
