Drs. Cotton, Okoye, and Weisman will cover high yield practical pearls for caring for pediatric patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). This will include diagnosis and management and how this may differ from adult patients. At the conclusion of this session, learners will be able to: Identify key differences in the epidemiology of pediatric & adult HS; Select appropriate first-line management for pediatric patients with HS; Choose appropriate options for pediatric patients who fail first-line therapy; Understand unique considerations in disease management for pediatric patients with HS.

Colleen Cotton, MD

Colleen Cotton, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at Children's National Hospital and George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, DC. She is board-certified in dermatology and pediatric dermatology. Her clinical interests include hidradenitis suppurativa, hemangiomas, and vascular anomalies, and she runs a multidisciplinary hidradenitis suppurativa clinic for pediatric patients. Dr. Cotton is also the Director of Clinical Trials for the Division of Dermatology at Children's National.

Dr. Ginette Okoye is Professor and Chair of Dermatology at Howard University College of Medicine. Her areas of clinical and research expertise are in skin of color and hidradenitis suppurativa. Dr. Okoye earned her Medical Degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians & Surgeons and completed her dermatology residency training at Yale University, where she also served as Chief Resident. She has been recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology with a Presidential Citation, a Volunteerism Award, a Patient Care Hero Award, and the 2023 William James, M.D. Mentor of the Year Award. She is the author of over 90 publications, including a textbook, “The Fundamentals of Ethnic Hair”.

Jamie Weisman, MD

Jamie Weisman is a dermatologist, researcher and writer from Sandy Springs, Georgia. Dr. Weisman is the founder of Medical Dermatology Specialists, a practice focused on autoimmune and inflammatory skin disease. She is also the director of research at Advanced Medical Research where she helps to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of treatment for severe skin diseases including psoriasis, lupus, hidradenitis suppurativa and atopic dermatitis. She is the co-founder of Kentucky Advanced Medical Research, a rural research site dedicated to increasing rural representation in clinical trials. She has served as President of both the Georgia Society of Dermatologists and the Atlanta Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, as well as serving on committees for the American Academy of Dermatology and collaborating on research at Emory University and the University of Pennsylvania.
