This comprehensive module provides an in-depth understanding of various skin disorders, focusing on their diagnosis, pathophysiology, and management. The complexities of atopic dermatitis are covered, including identifying triggers and managing symptoms, along with other eczematous eruptions. Additional topics include irritant and allergic contact dermatitis, lichenoid dermatoses, papulosquamous disorders, and regional dermatoses, as well as a detailed study of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

After participating in this module, the learner will be able to:

Section 1: Atopic Dermatitis and Other Eczematous Dermatoses

  1. Diagnose and treat various forms of atopic dermatitis.
  2. Identify triggers and associated features of atopic dermatitis.
  3. Identify and treat other common eczematous eruptions, such as: seborrheic dermatitis, asteatotic eczema, stasis dermatitis, nummular eczema, etc.

Section 2: Irritant and Allergic Contact Dermatitis

  1. Define irritant contact dermatitis.
  2. Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of irritant contact dermatitis.
  3. Describe the clinical presentation of irritant contact dermatitis.
  4. Discuss the diagnostic workup for irritant contact dermatitis, including the differential diagnosis.
  5. Formulate a treatment plan to include nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic agents for irritant contact dermatitis.
  6. Describe relevant patient education points for irritant contact dermatitis, including follow-up and monitoring requirements.
  7. Define allergic contact dermatitis.
  8. Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of allergic contact dermatitis.
  9. Describe the clinical presentation of allergic contact dermatitis.
  10. Discuss the diagnostic workup for allergic contact dermatitis, including the differential diagnosis.
  11. Formulate a treatment plan to include nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic agents for allergic contact dermatitis.
  12. Describe relevant patient education points for allergic contact dermatitis, including follow-up and monitoring requirements.

Section 3: Lichenoid Dermatoses

  1. Describe and discuss the definition, pathophysiology, etiology, signs/symptoms, differential diagnoses, diagnostic procedures, and treatments of the following lichenoid dermatoses:
    1. Lichen planus
    2. Lichenoid drug eruption
    3. Lichen striatus
    4. Lichen nitidus
    5. Erythema dyschromicum perstans
    6. Keratosis lichenoides chronica
    7. Actinic lichen nitidus
    8. Annular lichenoid dermatitis
    9. Lichen spinulosus

Section 4: Other Papulosquamous Disorders

  1. Describe and discuss the definition, pathophysiology, etiology, signs/symptoms, differential diagnoses, diagnostic procedures, and treatments of the following papulosquamous disorders:
    1. Parapsoriasis
    2. Large plaque parapsoriasis (LPP)
    3. Small plaque parapsoriasis (SPP)
    4. Mycosis fungoides (MF) / cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL)
    5. Pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLEVA)
    6. Pityriasis rubra pilaris
    7. Pityriasis rosea
    8. Granular parakeratosis
    9. Pityriasis rotunda

Section 5: Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis

  1. Describe associated triggers or risk factors for psoriasis.
  2. Identify and describe the morphology of psoriasis.
  3. Describe the pathogenesis of psoriasis.
  4. Describe the histopathology of psoriasis.
  5. Understand the comorbidities in psoriasis.
  6. Understand the types of psoriasis.
  7. Describe the clinical features of psoriatic arthritis.
  8. List the basic principles in the treatment of psoriasis.
  9. Discuss the emotional and psychosocial effects of psoriasis.
