This module is designed to explore a wide range of skin conditions, providing insights into their definitions, classifications, underlying causes, and clinical manifestations. The module covers various types of urticaria, the complexities of erythema, and the distinctions between different forms of purpura, along with their respective diagnostic and treatment approaches.
5.5 CME credits
After participating in this module, the learner will be able to:
Section 1: Urticaria, Angioedema, and Other Erythemas
- Apply knowledge of the epidemiology and pathophysiology of the types of urticaria to choose appropriate labs and tests to work up acute and chronic urticaria.
- Recognize clinical signs and symptoms of other dermatologic conditions that appear similar to urticaria and know how to distinguish between them.
- Identify the different figurate erythemas and know which can be observed, and which warrant further investigation for underlying causes.
Section 2: Vasculitis
- Define the terms purpura, petechiae, ecchymosis, and vasculitis.
- Categorize types of vasculitis based on size of vessels.
- Describe the etiology, pathophysiology, epidemiology, signs, symptoms, diagnostic workup, and treatments for the following conditions:
- Henoch- Schönlein purpura
- Urticarial vasculitis
- Wegener's granulomatosis
- Churg-Strauss syndrome
- Polyarteritis nodosa
- Temporal arteritis
- Takayasu's arteries
Section 3: Cutaneous Drug & Toxic Reactions
- Review the differentiating characteristics of Erythema Multiforme, SJS and TEN.
- Identify the classifications of drug eruptions and review the most commonly offending drugs.
- Review the clinical signs and symptoms of the most common drug eruptions seen in practice.
Section 4: Eosinophilic & Neutrophilic Dermatoses
- Identify and differentiate between various eosinophilic dermatoses.
- Perform comprehensive patient evaluations for eosinophilic dermatoses.
- Develop and manage effective treatment plans for patients with eosinophilic dermatoses.
Section 5: Pregnancy Dermatoses
- Determine the physiologic skin changes due to pregnancy.
- Determine the specific dermatoses of pregnancy.
- Determine the sequelae of the severe dermatoses of pregnancy.
