This module is designed to explore the various presentations, diagnostic findings, and differential diagnosis of both Langerhans and non-Langerhans cell histiocytoses. Additionally, it will examine xanthomas and non-infectious granulomatous disorders, focusing on their clinical features, associated conditions, and management strategies.

After participating in this module, the learner will be able to:

Section 1: Histiocytoses

  1. Identify the pertinent physical exam, laboratory findings, and differential diagnosis for the variants of Langerhans cell histiocytosis.
  2. Identify the varied presentations of non-Langerhans cell histiocytoses and their associated findings.

Section 2: Xanthomas

  1. Identify the pertinent physical exam, laboratory findings, and differential diagnosis for the four types of xanthomas.
  2. Identify the five major types of hyperlipidemia and their associated type of xanthoma.
  3. Identify normolipemic xanthomas and their causes.

Section 3: Non-infectious Granulomatous Disorders

  1. Identify sarcoidosis and its variants and recommend appropriate treatment options.
  2. Identify granuloma annulare, necrobiosis lipoidica, and other non-infectious granulomatous disorders.
  3. Identify foreign body granulomas and their inorganic and organic causes.
