Primary cicatricial alopecia represents a diverse group of inflammatory disorders that result in permanent hair loss when not recognized and treated promptly. This webinar will provide a practical, case-based approach to the diagnosis, evaluation, and evidence-based management of scarring alopecia, highlighting clinical pearls that dermatology PAs can immediately apply in practice to improve patient outcomes.
Participants will:
- Differentiate the major forms of primary cicatricial alopecia using clinical presentation, trichoscopic findings, and histopathologic features to facilitate timely diagnosis.
- Develop evidence-based treatment plans for common cicatricial alopecias, incorporating appropriate medical therapies, patient counseling, disease monitoring, and referral when indicated.
- Recognize opportunities to improve patient outcomes through early intervention, multidisciplinary collaboration, and long-term management strategies that minimize irreversible hair loss.
This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to apply for 1 AAPA Category 1 CME credits from the AAPA Review Panel. The total number of approved credits is yet to be determined.
Leah A Cardwell, MD
Dr. Leah Cardwell is a board-certified Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist pursuing a dedicated hair-transplant and hair-restoration fellowship, specializing in advanced medical and surgical treatment of hair loss, including follicular unit extraction and follicular unit transplant, graft design, and comprehensive hair-restoration strategies.
A Detroit native, Dr. Cardwell earned her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. She completed a dermatology research fellowship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Dermatology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and Dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Cardwell has authored numerous publications and presentations on acne, rosacea, inflammatory skin disease, and hair disorders. Her clinical interests include general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, ethnic skin, hair and scalp disorders, and hair restoration. A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, she is committed to advancing diversity in dermatology, improving patient education, and expanding access to high-quality dermatologic care.
