Course Description
Monkeypox continues to spread around the world, especially in the United States. Considering that this viral illness typically presents with cutaneous signs and symptoms, it is imperative that all dermatological clinicians know certain key facts about it. We will review, in depth, the pathogenesis, transmission, diagnosis and therapy of monkeypox, with emphasis on those aspects relevant to dermatology.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will:
- Identify the monkeypox virus in proper relationship to other orthopoxviridae.
- Understand methods of transmission of monkeypox virus.
- Identify individuals at high epidemiologic risk for monkeypox.
- Integrate vaccine and antiviral drugs in the management of monkeypox infection.
