JAK inhibitors have transformed the treatment of inflammatory skin disease but have also raised concerns regarding cardiovascular and thrombotic risk. This 60-minute webinar will review the biologic basis of JAK inhibition, examines the evidence that led to current FDA boxed warnings, and provides a practical approach to cardiovascular risk assessment and patient counseling in everyday dermatology practice.
Participants will:
- Review immune pathways and their relevance to major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk
- Explain the evidence and rationale underlying the FDA boxed warning for JAK inhibitors.
- Evaluate available data regarding cardiovascular safety outcomes among JAK inhibitors and related immunomodulatory therapies used in dermatology.
- Recognize clinical scenarios in which further cardiovascular evaluation or consultation may be appropriate in the development of shared decision-making with patients.
