Are labs necessary when evaluating a patient with hair loss? And if so, what? Hayden Middleton DMSc, PA-C and Erin Monahan DMSc, PA-C, CAQ-Derm discuss their recent publication in the JDPA, “Expert consensus recommendations on appropriate serological testing for the chief complaint of alopecia”. They’ll cover what inspired this project, how their author team used the eDelphi method to write the consensus statements and collaborated to form the guidelines, and how interested PAs may get involved in research and publication.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
1. Outline basic methodological approach to consensus guideline projects.
2. Compare signs and symptoms associated with scarring and nonscarring alopecia.
3. Choose the appropriate evidence-based initial serological work-up for a presenting alopecia.
